Disputes Procedure

At the JIB, we serve as an independent industrial relations body dedicated to supporting the industry. Our Disputes Procedure, which covers disciplinary, dismissal, and grievance matters, is governed by the JIB National Working Rules (NWR) 19 & 20. For a detailed overview of how this procedure operates, please refer to Section 3 of the JIB Handbook.

In cases of workplace grievances, it is generally recommended to address the issue internally and informally whenever possible. However, when internal resolution isn’t feasible, grievances should be formally raised through the company’s internal grievance procedure as outlined in NWR 19.
Once all internal procedures, including appeals, have been exhausted, a claim may be lodged through the JIB Dispute Procedure. This process is available for issues arising after disciplinary hearings as well, in accordance with NWR 20.

A Guide to the Disputes Procedure is available here.

The Dispute Procedure Application form can be accessed here.

Application for Breach of Rule 17

Unite the Union Officers who wish to bring claims for a breach of National Working Rule 17 are required to use the specific form designated for this purpose: Application Form for a Breach of National Working Rule 17. Before submitting a claim, it is important that Unite the Union Regional Officers review the Guidance Booklet for Rule 17 Claims. This booklet provides detailed instructions and should be read in conjunction with the Application Form to ensure that all necessary steps are followed. For further information or to obtain the application form and guidance booklet, please contact the Industrial Relations Department.
