JIB Skills Development Fund – for operatives

JIB Skills Development Fund & for operatives

If you want to further your education, advance your craft, or upskill, the JIB Skills Development Fund may be able to provide financial assistance.

The Fund promotes a higher standard of technical knowledge and craftsmanship. This is done through the funding of courses relevant to the industry, usually for 50% of the course fee to a maximum of £625.

Download a leaflet with more information.

Who qualifies?

In order to qualify for funding you must be working directly for a JIB member company, be an apprentice registered with the JIB, or be registered as unemployed.

Funding is also open to anyone wishing to undertake a study in the electrical industry which will be of benefit to the industry as a whole.

Funding for unemployed operatives is more discretionary. Applications are considered on their merits and there is no restriction on the type of course considered or the amounts funded, so it makes sense to ask the question if you are in this situation. Personal circumstances will also be taken into account so please let us know via the application form if there are any reasons why a particular course or a level of funding should be provided. The JIB Skills Development Fund is working collaboratively with the Electrical Industries Charity to provide funding to those in these particularly difficult circumstances.

For further information about the Electrical Industries Charity please see their website or call their helpline on 020 3696 1710.

What courses are covered for funding?

Courses that are eligible for funding are usually those which are over and above the requirements of JIB grading. For example, Inspection and Testing will not usually be covered as this is a requirement of Approved Electrician grading.

The Mature Candidate Assessment is no longer covered as the Fund has worked with The Electrotechnical Careers Partnership (TESP) to assist in subsidising the assessment. For more information please see details on the TESP Careers Progression Programme.

JIB Scholarship Grant

If you are considering undertaking a higher level qualification, such as a Master's Degree, then the newly established JIB Scholarship Grant may be able to provide with financial assistance of £3,000.

The JIB Skills Development Fund has provided me with funding for the last three years through a Business and Management HNC up to the HND course. The committee's support has enabled my career to move forward at an exponential rate. I would encourage all members of the electrical industry who are looking to further their career to take full advantage of what the JIB are offering and to know no boundaries.
