Employer MembershipWhat are the advantages of Membership? The main advantage of Employer Membership is access to the services provided by the administrative staff of the JIB. These include: Unlimited, impartial and practical advice on employee relations issues, including the avoidance of grievances and resolution of disputes. Nationally negotiated rates of wages and conditions of employment, eliminating the need for Company wage reviews and providing a stable basis for tendering. Nationally recognised training schemes, linked to NVQs, specifically designed to provide the skills required by the Industry. Note: JTL, formed by the same partnership as the JIB, is the principal Managing Agent for the recruitment and placement of Apprentices. All JTL Apprentices are fully funded. Participation in the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS), including free issue of photo ID style cards to all eligible operatives. This scheme recognises individual skills and provides evidence of their competence to clients. JIB Employer Members are required to offer grading to their Operatives and their rate of pay is dependent upon the grade allocated. Through the obligatory purchase of a weekly credit, Employer Members access a Combined Benefits Scheme which helps them to comply with current legislation on Holiday Pay as well as providing their Operatives with: BUPA Membership Regular Health Screening Sickness Benefit Permanent & Total Disability Benefit Death Benefit Opportunity to join Amicus This Benefits scheme is non-contributory on the part of the Operative and there are cost savings to the Employer due to the unique National Insurance arrangements which apply to the Scheme. By purchasing these Benefits Credits through the ECIBA both the employer and employee are except from paying National Insurance Contributions on holiday pay. This is due to a unique arrangement with the Inland Revenue and saves employer approximately £300 per year per operative. Access to the JIB Pension Scheme. This is voluntary but can be used as an alternative to a Stakeholder Pension, which all Employers of more than five staff are obliged by Law to provide. Can anyone be a JIB Member? There are two related categories of JIB Membership. 1) Electrical Contractors Companies must: (a) Be engaged in Electrical Contracting* within England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, or be an Employer of Electricians for the maintenance of electrical installations. (b) Employ two or more adult Operatives, one of whom can be the proprietor. (c) Have been trading for one year in its present form. * The Electrical Contracting Industry includes the design, manufacture, sale, distribution, installation, erection, maintenance, repair and renewal of all kinds of electrical, electronic, instrumentation and environmental installations, equipment and appliance and ancillary plant activities. 2) Cabling and Jointing Contractors Membership as a Cabling and Jointing Contractor is additional and separate to standard JIB Membership. To be included upon the JIB Register of Cabling and Jointing Contractors, a firm will be placed upon a one years probationary period and must satisfy requirements laid down by the Cabling and Jointing Committee.
