Feb 10, 2012

The JIB has formalised its partnership with the Modular and Portable Buildings Association (MPBA) with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

Modular and Portable Buildings Association (MPBA) with the signing of a MemorandumWorking alongside the ECA, under the arrangement members of the MPBA will be able to access training to undertake electrical inspection reports and can gain formal skills on remedial, like for like, electrical maintenance. The training and assessment process will culminate in the issue of an ECS card so individuals can prove their competence to customers.

Employees within the industry who already are competent to undertake this work will also be able to have their skills assessed and recognised, in order to gain an ECS card.

The MPBA has 95 full members that represent 95% of the modular hire industry. Association Secretary Jackie Maginnis said: “In a nutshell we now have a recognisable schemes that proves and, eventually, improves the standards of this industry’s workforce. We hope in the future to explore further training to enable our members to undertake a higher skill level in electrical remedial tasks.”

John Corcoran of the ECA added: “ECA is delighted to work with the MPBA to provide this training route. It enables the modular and portable buildings industry to carry out pre delivery inspection, test and maintenance on electrical installations in the cabin hire sector with confidence that their work is backed by the electrotechnical industry, and an ECS card to prove it.”
