The Employee Relations Committee was formed in 1999. Its objectives are to continually review,
at strategic and operational levels all areas affecting the employment of labour in the Industry and
for the development of the National Agreement and all areas involving health and safety.

Its duties are:-
- To review and where appropriate recommend changes to the JIB National Working Rules
- To monitor the JIB Dismissal Procedures Agreement and to ensure compliance with new
legislation
- To monitor the JIB Procedure for Handling Grievances and Avoiding Disputes
- To examine employment legislation and ensure that the Industry is advised of any potential
impact
- To examine health and safety legislation and to ensure that the Industry is advised of any
potential impact
- To monitor the workings of sectoral agreements within the JIB National Working Rules (ie
Cabling & Jointing Sector and Major Projects Sector)
- To encourage the use of appropriate procedures and machinery to ensure that industrial
relations matters are dealt with through the procedures
- To produce the JIB Annual Disputes Report
- To maintain the Health & Safety Handbook
- To produce the annual Survey of Accidents at Work and
- To produce Safety Bulletins

The Committee's constitution comprises of three members from each party (one of whom should
be a National Board Member) together with the JIB Head of Industrial Relations, with the
recommendation of one Safety specialist and one Employee Relations specialist from each party.
The Committee can set up Working Groups to handle specific projects working to specific time
and project schedules defined by the Committee.
