Permanent & Total Disability Benefit

To qualify for this benefit the Operative must be under the age of 65 at the date of the injury or onset of the disease. It will only be payable in respect of an injury or disease commencing on or after 1 October 1978. It is important to note that a permanent and total disability payment will be made in lieu of any other benefit form the Group Life Insurance Plan.

  1. If, due to injury or disease, an operative loses a limb or the total use of the limb, (or sustains permanent and total loss of vision), and is unable to work in the future in his JIB Grade, a payment of £15,000 will be made.

  2. Where an Operative suffers some other serious illness or injury, and as a result is unable to ever work in the future in his JIB Grade without being a hazard, then a discretionary benefit may be payable. Application forms can be obtained from ECIBA. Details of the claim will be sent to the JIB which has total discretion as to eligibility and the amount paid.

NB: An Operative who have been made redundant from a JIB Member Employer and has registered immediately with the JIB Registration Department as unemployed and is available for work can maintain up to 26 weeks entitlement that would otherwise lapse during a period when Benefit Credits are not being purchased for him.

Total Disability Waiver

Eligible, without additional premium, for Death Benefit and Permanent and Total Disability Benefit, after 52 weeks of certificated sickness has been claimed, Operatives will be required to provide proof of total disability. Eligibility ceases upon normal retirement age.

Sickness Benefit

Please note. There is a two week waiting period before Sickness Benefit is paid, during which time only Statutory Sick Pay applies. This waiting period does not apply to a subsequent period of sickness which occurs within 13 weeks of the original. Entitlement ceases after 28 weeks.

The Values of the Weekly JIB Combined Benefits Credits – based on the National Standard Job Employed (Transport Provided) rate – may not necessarily meet the provisions of The Working Time Regulations, 1998. It may therefore be necessary for employers to adjust individual employees’ Holiday Pay in order to conform to the Regulations.

Please Note : Separate credit values apply to operatives working on NAECI Sites and these can be obtained either from the JIB Website www.jib.org.uk or by contacting the ECIBA.
