1983 JIB Training Scheme - 2001 Wage RatesPromulgated by the JIB National Board on 21st September 2000 to be effective from the 8th January 2001.1. WAGE RATES From 8th January 2001 three different wage rates shall apply to apprentices, depending on whether they report directly to the shop and their method of transport to their place of work. The three categories are: Shop Reporting Payable to an apprentice who is required to start and finish at the shop. Job Reporting (Transport Provided) Payable to an apprentice who is required to start and finish at normal starting and finishing times on jobs, travelling in their own time in transport provided by the employer. The apprentice shall also be entitled to payment for Travel Time, where eligible, as detailed in the appropriate scale. Job Reporting (Own Transport) Payable to an apprentice who is required to start and finish at normal starting and finishing times on jobs, travelling in their own time by their own means. The apprentice shall be entitled to payment for Travel Time and Travel Allowance, where eligible, as detailed in the appropriate scale. 2. WAGES 2001 (i) National Standard Rates From and including 8th January 2001, the JIB hourly rates of wages shall be as set out below:
College days will be paid at the Shop Reporting rate plus actual fares from home to college. See section 5 of this document for details regarding National Minimum wage for Junior Apprentices. (ii) London Rate From and including 8th January 2001, the following hourly rates will apply to apprentices engaged upon work falling within the terms of JIB National Working Rule 6(b).

TRAVELLING TIME and TRAVEL ALLOWANCES (a) Travel Time and Travel Allowances Apprentices who are required to start and finish at the normal starting and finishing time on jobs which are 15 miles and over from the shop - in a straight line - shall receive payment for Travelling Time and, where transport is not provided by the employer, Travel Allowance, as follows:
(b) Country Allowance From and including 8th January 2001 Country Allowance for apprentices will be abolished. 4. Retention of Labour In order to retain, within the industry, apprentices who do not attain their NVQ Level 3, which is required to complete their training under a recognised JIB Training Scheme, it has been agreed to introduce a JIB grade of Electrical Improver. This grade will be available to ex-apprentices of recognised JIB Training Schemes over the age of 21 who have achieved the NVQ Level 2. This will only apply to those apprentices who have not attained the NVQ Level 3 after January 2001. Employers will utilise any funds available to actively encourage Electrical Improvers to continue their training to reach the fully skilled grade. 5. National Minimum Wage Junior Apprentices aged 19 years and over may be affected by the DTI guidance on the National Minimum Wage, see below. DTI Guidance on the National Minimum Wage Apprentices are entitled to the National Minimum Wage twelve months after reaching the age of 18 years if the apprenticeship commenced at 16, 17 or 18 years of age or, if commencing between 19 and 25 years of age, twelve months after commencement of the apprenticeship. Apprentices aged 26 and above must be paid the National Minimum Wage from the commencement of their apprenticeship. The National Minimum Wage rates for apprentices are: 18 - 21 years old £3.20 per hour 22 - 25 years old £3.70 per hour 26 years and over £3.70 per hour |
