2013 and 2014 Industrial Determination

Oct 23, 2012

The negotiations between ECA and Unite on a review of JIB Wages, Terms and Conditions for 2013 and 2014 have been completed. Part of the process has been a consultative ballot of Unite members working for JIB member companies.

We have been notified by Unite that the ballot voted in favour of the increase.  A brief review is as follows:

  • A 1.5% increase in rates of pay to take effect from Monday 7th January 2013
  • A further 2% increase in rates of pay to take effect from Monday 6th January 2014
  • Travel Allowance and Travelling Time payments increased in line with the above
  • A new apprentice pay structure for apprentices registered on or after Monday 7th January 2013 with existing apprentices ring-fenced
  • An increase in the Lodging Allowance rate from Monday 7th January 2013 to £35.55 per night with a further increase in 2014
  • Increase in the Death Benefit to £25,000 with effect from 6th January 2014
  • Increase in the Accidental Death Benefit to £12,500 if death occurs travelling to and from work which in addition to death from any cause gives a total of £37,500 with effect from 6th January 2014
  • Increase in the Accidental Death Benefit to £55,000 if death occurs as the result of an accident at work which in addition to death from any cause gives a total of £80,000 with effect from 6th January 2014
  • Increase in the Permanent & Total Disability Benefit to £25,000 with effect from Monday 6th January 2014
  • A new additional payment of up to £25,000 under the Permanent & Total Disability Benefit for operatives should the disability arise from an accident at work with effect from Monday 6th January 2014
  • Sick Pay increases from 26 weeks to 50 weeks with effect from 6th January 2014
  • Increases to the Death Benefit, Accidental Death Benefit and Permanent & Total Disability Benefit for apprentices to take effect from Monday 6th January 2014
  • A review of the apprentice benefits structure

Through the JIB constitution, the Industrial Determination must be ratified by the JIB National Board.  This is currently being undertaken.  Once it has been agreed the full determination will be placed on the JIB website.
